WTSA lines raising rates for chemicals, resins and plastics

Shipping lines in the Westbound Transpacific Stabilization Agreement said Wednesday they are recommending increases to freight rates for chemicals, industrial resins and plastic scrap, effective May 1.

At that time, WTSA member lines say they intend to raise rates in those three commodity categories by a minimum $50 per 40-foot equivalent unit for U.S. West Coast and East Coast port-to-port and door shipments from the United States to Asia, and by a minimum $300 per FEU for inland point and mini-landbridge intermodal cargo, including Gulf Coast moves.

Individual lines may apply a higher charge in cases where specialized equipment, such as shipper-owned tank containers, is required.
