Yang Ming makes Tacoma its first dedicated U.S. terminal

The port of Tacoma signed a long-term lease agreement Dec. 10 with Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp., providing the Taiwanese shipping line with its first single-user, dedicated U.S. terminal.

The agreement gives Yang Ming an initial 12-year term lease with a five-year renewal option for Terminal 7-D. Part of the agreement require the port to refurbish the terminal in preparation for Yang Ming’s first ship call scheduled for next summer.

Terminal 7-D is located on the port’s 51-foot-deep Sitcum Waterway, and provides to Yang Ming 54 acres adjacent to the port’s north intermodal yard. The agreement outlines an option to expand to 76 acres.
