YANGMING CONFIRMS ORDER FOR TWO 5,500-TEU SHIPS
Taiwan’s Yangming Marine Transport has ordered two 5,500-TEU
containerships from the Korean shipyard Hyundai and one Panamax bulk carrier from the
Imabari Shipbuilding yard in Japan.
The order for the containerships confirms a previously announced plan to
build another two 5,500-TEU ships to complement a series of five 5,500-TEU ships ordered
in 1998. The additional two vessels will be delivered in March and June 2001.
Yangming said that the bulk ship will be chartered to Transyang Shipping Pte.
Ltd., a Panamax bulk shipping company of Yangming and China Steel Express Corp.
Current prices for bulk carriers are the lowest for 10 years, a spokesman for
Yangming said.
