YANGMING REPORTS FALL IN FIRST-HALF PROFITS
Yangming Marine Transport reported a sharp fall in net
profits for the first half of the year, to NT$174 million (US$5 million), from NT$1.39
billion in the same period of 1998.
Operating revenue increased to NT$19.69 billion (US$606 million), from
NT18.26 billion last year.
A spokesman for Yangming said that the company expects to make much
higher profits in the second half of the year. The company will benefit from the May
eastbound rate increase in the Pacific trade and from the July westbound price hike in the
Asia/Europe trade, the spokesman added.
Yangming predicted that it will achieve its budgeted net profit target
of NT$1.79 billion (US$55 million) for the year.
