ZIM MOVES REGIONAL HEAD OFFICE FROM NEW YORK TO NORFOLK
Zim Israel Navigation Co. will move its U.S. corporate office from New York City to Norfolk, Va., in September.
The shipping line said that the move of the head office of Zim American Israeli Shipping Co. Inc., the company’s general agent in North America, will provide a competitive advantage and improve its position to meet “customers’ requirements, market needs, and future challenges.”
There has been a trend in recent years for large shipping companies to move out of New York City, mainly due to rising operating costs, Zim said. Many ocean carriers have relocated from Manhattan to New Jersey. But Zim said that Norfolk emerged as an attractive location which met its targets.
As part of the transition, Zim said that it is “taking the necessary measures to ensure that critical executive level employees will remain with the company and relocate to Virginia.”
