Zim ship unloaded in Oakland

Oakland longshoremen worked a Zim Lines containership Monday, a day after demonstrators set up picket lines in an attempt to prevent unloading and loading of the vessel, the Oakland Tribune said.

Longshoremen in the Port of Oakland chose not to cross a picket line demonstrators set up on Sunday morning, hours before the ship reportedly arrived. The terminal where the ship tied up did not order workers for the evening shift, but the newspaper said members of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union began working the ship at

8 a.m. on Monday.

The Sunday demonstration was called to protest last month’s attack by Israel on a ship trying to bring aid to Gaza that left nine persons dead.
