The Israeli ocean carrier said it plans to expand its refrigerated container fleet in order to accommodate the rising demand from its ZIMonitor service.
Ocean carrier ZIM plans to deploy an order of approximately 1,900 new 40-foot high-cube refrigerated containers in 2016, which were specifically designed to accommodate the ZIMonitor service, the company said.
The ZIMonitor service, which launched earlier this year, allows customers to monitor the status of their sensitive, high-value cargo stowed in refrigerated containers; change settings remotely; and intervene to prevent damages.
Customers can receive shipment alerts via text message or e-mail on temperature, humidity, GPS location, route deviation and unauthorized door opening, ZIM said in a statement. And a dedicated response team is available 24/7 to respond to and prevent damages.
The ZIMonitor service is designed to serve a wide variety of valuable or sensitive cargo sectors including pharmaceuticals, medical lab equipment, aviation products, perishable foods, wines and other alcoholic beverages, agricultural products, electronics, hazardous goods, artwork and antiques.
Established in 1945, ZIM calls approximately 180 ports throughout the world with a fleet of about 80 vessels and over 70 shipping lines.
