SKYBITZ, FREIGHT TRACKING SERVICE, NAMES WOOD CEO
SkyBitz, a Dulles, Va.-based start-up that provides tracking and two-way communications service for untethered tractor trailers, rail equipment, and intermodal and maritime containers, said it named former Exel official Andy Wood as chief executive.
Wood was CEO of Shutterfly, an independent online photo finisher. Prior to that he set up North American operations for global logistics company Exel.
SkyBitz, in contrast to many technology companies, has hired several executives from its customer base in the transportation and logistics industries.
Wood succeeds Michael Fitzgerald, a logistics veteran who previously served as president of TNT Logistics, North America and senior vice president, advanced planning and research at FedEx Corp.
SkyBitz founder Matthew Schor said Fitzgerald served as interim CEO for one year until the company closed its venture capital funding and got its product to market.
