BNSF LEASES TRACK IN TEXAS TO TIMBER ROCK RR
The Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway Company (BNSF), based in Fort Worth, Texas, announced on Tuesday that it had leased about 100 miles of track between Kirbyville and Tenaha, Texas, to the Timber Rock Railroad Company.
The 10-year lease includes all connecting sidings, spurs, and sidetracks, as well as various switching tracks. BNSF had sold its line between Kirbyville and DeRidder, La., to Timber Rock Railroad in 1998. That sale and the current lease proves that “shortline operators can provide valuable service by feeding us traffic,” said Pete Rickershauser, BNSF’s vice president.
Timber Rock Railroad is owned by Watco Companies, based in Pittsburg, Kan.
