Because of terminal congestion, port gives importers an extra three days to pick up boxes in October.
The Port of Long Beach said it’s extending free time to importers moving containers through its terminals.
As a result of peak congestion at its container terminals, the Southern California port has implemented its tariff provision 406(c) to allow terminals to provide up to three additional working days of free time for the delivery of import containers. This temporary provision will apply to boxes discharged from vessels on Oct. 18-31, the port said.
The port, however, urged shippers to pick up their import containers as soon as possible.
“During this period, all of the stakeholders in the ocean transportation industry need to continue do what we can to relieve congestion and bring the terminal service levels back to normal,” the port said.
