Bridge opening expected to ease Portland rail congestion
The Port of Portland held a ceremony Wednesday to celebrate the opening of a new $18 million crossover that will lifts a busy road over two key railroad lines at the Southern gateway of the Rivergate Industrial District.
The 400,000 rail cars that travel through Rivergate used to frequently delay trucks serving the district's many warehouse and distribution facilities, the port said in a statement. The port estimates the new connection will save Rivergate businesses $1.4 million annually in reduced delays and ease the commute of the 9,000 people who work there.
