Toyota adds acreage at Portland
Auto volumes through Toyota's auto-handling facility at the Port of Portland's Terminal 4 have increased so dramatically this year that the automaker recently hired 30 new employees and added 15 acres at the terminal to handle the growth, the port said Thursday.
Skyrocketing sales this year have exceeded Toyota's projections and to accommodate the volume increase, Toyota signed a 5-year lease amendment with the port on Thursday for an additional 15.28 acres of paved and fenced storage space at T-4. The new property is adjacent to Toyota's existing auto-handling facility.
If Toyota continues at its current pace, the company expects to break records at Portland, including ship calls in a year (150) and cars imported in a year (250,000).
