MAERSK SEALAND TO MERGE MERCANTILE, SEA-LAND LOGISTICS

Maersk Sealand announced that it will integrate its logistics operations under a single brand name — Maersk Logistics.

The new unit consists of Maersk’s Mercantile Logistics and Sea-Land Logistics (formerly Buyers & Shippers Enterprises). Maersk Sealand expects to finish the integration of the two logistics operations by March 31.

“Our clients can rest assured that the integration process will be executed to avoid any disruptions to business,” said Soren K. Brandt, global managing director of Maersk Logistics. “We do not anticipate changes in the way existing business relations for both companies are handled.”

Maersk Logistics will remain independent of Maersk Sealand, while still benefiting from the transportation capacity offered by Maersk Sealand, the carrier said.

The merged logistics operations will be comprised of 3,000 employees and 160 offices in 55 countries. Maersk Logistics offers logistics services, such as supply chain management, warehousing, distribution, forwarding, groupage, non-vessel-operating common carrier services, and air freight.

The company said that by customizing these logistics services around shippers’ needs can save them up to 20 percent or more on their supply chain costs.
