DHL PLANS TO SPEND $1.5 BILLION ON NEW FLEET, HUBS
DHL International, the non-U.S. arm of global express company DHL
Worldwide Express, plans to invest more than $1.5 billion on a new
freighter fleet and developing ground infrastructure.
DHL said it will use $1.3 billion to purchase 40 to 45 airplanes from
Boeing or Airbus, to be phased into the company’s European and Africa route network. The
planes, possibly B737s, B757s or A321s, will replace DHL’s fleet of aging B727 freighters.
DHL expects to make a firm order in the next two months.
The company will spend more than $200 million to build hubs in Cologne,
Frankfurt and Singapore, and to upgrade the delivery fleet and equipment of DHL Japan.
