U.S. lumber industry disappointed by Canada’s failure to come to table
The U.S. lumber industry expressed disappointment Tuesday over the Canadian government’s cancellation of scheduled talks in Ottawa on Aug. 22 to discuss the softwood lumber dispute.
“Repeatedly, the Canadian federal and provincial governments have failed to come to the table with detailed proposals,” said Steve Swanson, chairman of the Washington-based Coalition for Fair Lumber Imports, in a statement. “We remain committed to finding a workable solution and we remain committed to not allowing Canada’s subsidized and dumped imports to devastate our industry.”
