EC APPROVES US AIRWAYS-UNITED AIRLINES MERGER
The European Commission on Friday approved the proposed merger of US Airways and United Airlines.
The EC’s backing “is a very significant step forward,” said Stephen M. Wolf, chairman of US Airways. “The commission conducted a very thorough review, and we appreciate the swiftness of its approval.”
The next step is a review of the proposed merger by the antitrust division of the U.S. Department of Justice, which is expected to be concluded by April 2.
