The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey awarded the contract to Union Paving and Construction Co. for improvements at Greenville Yard.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said it has awarded a $52.4 million contract to Union Paving and Construction Co., Inc. of Mountainside, N.J. for improvements at the Greenville Yard.
The contract is for rail infrastructure improvements at the Greenville Yard to support the Port Jersey ExpressRail facility being built by the container terminal GCT USA; and for work on the port authority’s New York/New Jersey rail carfloat operation at the yard. The carfloat transports rail cars via a floating barge between the Greenville Yard and the 65th Street Terminal in Brooklyn.
The work provides for the expansion of Greenville Yard, the construction of lead tracks, receiving and departure tracks, support tracks and associated turnouts and crossovers, yard lighting, fencing, paving, storm drains and power, water and sanitary sewer services.
The work will support the new Port Jersey ExpressRail facility, which broke ground in December. The Port Authority contributed up to $56 million toward that project, which it said will have an annual capacity of 430,000 TEUs.
The Port Jersey ExpressRail facility will connect the GCT Bayonne terminal to CSX and Norfolk Southern’s railroads and is scheduled for completion in mid-2018.
