EC TO INVESTIGATE PROPOSED ITALIAN SINGLE HULL TANKERS SCRAPPING SCHEME
The European Commission will investigate a draft Italian aid scheme granting shipowners incentives for scrapping single hull tankers of 20 years and over. “Further clarification of the notified scheme’s guarantees in terms of protection of the environment and re-investment conditions is needed,” an E.U. statement said.
Under the terms of the proposed scheme, shipowners demolishing old tankers equipped to transport crude oil or oil and chemical products would benefit from a maximum aid of just under 4 million euro’s (7, 500 million ITL).
