COLOMBIA INDEPENDENT CARRIER AGREEMENT ADDS SECURITY SURCHARGE

COLOMBIA INDEPENDENT CARRIER AGREEMENT ADDS SECURITY SURCHARGE

Colombia Independent Carrier Agreement lines Frontier and Seaboard Marine will add a security surcharge for services between the United States and Colombia, effective May 1.

The surcharge will be $50 per TEU, $100 per FEU and $112 per 45-foot container.

'The charge is the result of the escalating cost associated with complying with the increased security measures mandated by various U.S. governmental agencies, state and local government agencies that are responsible to oversee security at U.S. ports and international commerce,' the conference said.

The carrier agreement's action follows identical surcharges set by three other U.S./Caribbean/Central America carrier groups: the Hispanola Discussion Agreement (Seaboard, Tropical, Crowley Liner Services, Navieras, Tecmarine, Frontier and Maersk Sealand), the Central American Discussion Agreement (APL, Seaboard, Crowley Liner Services and Maersk Sealand) and the Caribbean Ship Owners Association    Tropical Shipping, Seaboard, Crowley Liner Services, Bernuth, Tecmarine, Seafreight and CMA CGM).
