Virginia ditches gas tax hike
The Virginia state Senate agreed to back off its insistence on a gasoline tax increase in an attempt to end a budget stalemate with the House of Delegates over how to close a large spending gap.
A gasoline tax hike would have increased the cost of doing business for truckers, but instead many highway transportation projects have been put on the backburner because of the state's funding shortfall, according to news accounts.
