Carriers switch to new port in Dominican Republic
CMA CGM, Compania Sud Americana de Vapores, Hamburg Sud, Hapag-Lloyd and P&O Nedlloyd are switching the call to the Dominican Republic on their joint weekly “NCS” service from Rio Haina to the new port of Caucedo.
Caucedo is a deep water terminal facility developed by CSX World Terminals, about 25 kilometers east of Santo Domingo. Phase 1 of the new terminal facility is designed to have a 600-meter (1,970-foot) berth and has been dredged to 14 meters (46 feet). The 50-hectare (123.5-acre) container terminal is protected by a recently constructed breakwater.
The first vessel deployed on the “NCS” service to call at Caucedo will be the “CMA CGM Colombie” on Dec. 2.
The “NCS” service uses six ships averaging 1,800 TEUs and will have a revised port rotation of Hamburg; Felixstowe; Rotterdam; Le Havre; Port of Spain, Trinidad; La Guaira; Puerto Cabello; Curacao; Aruba; Santa Marta; Cartagena, Colombia; Puerto Limon; Kingston; Caucedo; San Juan; Rotterdam; Hamburg and Felixstowe.
