Los Angeles June inbound box traffic up 13%
The volume of loaded inbound containers discharged in Los Angeles, the largest U.S. container port, rose 13 percent in June to 340,625 TEUs from 301,151 TEUs in June 2003.
The percentage increase in inbound traffic, regarded as an indicator of the strength of the eastbound transpacific market, was lower in Los Angeles than in the neighboring port of Long Beach, where inbound traffic soared 28 percent year-on-year in June to 260,752 TEUs.
Outbound traffic of loaded containers in Los Angeles rose 0.2 percent in June to 89,710 TEUs, whereas outbound volume in Long Beach rose 16 percent in June in Long Beach to 82,218 TEUs.
The port of Los Angeles also said it handled 181,746 TEUs of empty containers, an increase of 5 percent.
Total port traffic in June was up 9 percent overall to 612,081 TEUs.
For the first six months of the year, total port container traffic at Los Angeles was 3.6 million TEUs, an increase of 5 percent over the corresponding period in 2003.
