DUTCH TERMINAL OPENS FOR WEATHER-SENSITIVE CARGOES
A second “all weather terminal,” designed to handle weather-sensitive cargoes under roof, has opened in the port of Amsterdam in the Netherlands.
Operating 365 days a year, the two all weather terminals, located at the Amsterdam West harbor, can load and unload coastal vessels and river barges in any weather conditions. Water-sensitive goods, such as steel coils, paper and pulp products, and aluminum can be stored in the terminals’ climatized storage facilities.
Operations from coastal vessels directly onto river barges are handled under roof and offer direct connections with the German and Swiss hinterland.
The addition of the second terminal will more than double the handling capacity for weather sensitive products.
Since the first all weather terminal was completed in 1998, the volume of weather sensitive cargo has grown from 230,000 to 850,000 tons, the port of Amsterdam said.
