LEGO consolidates distribution at DHL warehouse in Czech Republic

Danish toy manufacturer LEGO has awarded a five-year contract to DHL Exel Supply Chain to consolidate all of its logistics needs outside of North America at DHL’s distribution center in Jirny, near Prague in the Czech Republic.

Stock from LEGO’s five current distribution facilities across Europe will gradually be transferred to DHL’s 60,000-square-meter warehouse in Jirny, with 600 jobs created.

“We are convinced that centralizing our distribution activities in the DHL DC in Jirny will be of great benefit to us. Improving our continuous focus on logistics operations will support the leading position of our brand,” said Egil M'ller Nielsen, LEGO’s head of logistics in Europe and Asia.

The Jirny site is also the Czech Republic headquarters of DHL Exel Supply Chain, the contract logistics arm of the DHL Logistics division in the country.

DHL, part of the German Deutsche Post World Net group, is the leading contract logistics company in the Czech Republic market, accounting for 50 percent of the country’s express logistics business and more than 15 percent of the logistics market as a whole.
