The express carrier projects that the new facility will be the third largest processing center in its U.S. network.
Construction will start in November on the 341-acre site in Fulton County, and will be completed by the end of 2018. UPS expects to hire about 1,250 employees to support the operation.
UPS said the new 1.2 million-square-foot Atlanta facility will be capable of processing more than 100,000 packages per hour over 15 miles of conveyors using automated processing equipment. The facility will also include a delivery vehicle center capable of dispatching more than 280 trucks for area deliveries and pickups, and a UPS Customer Center for retail service.
