UPS opens stores in Shanghai
UPS said it has opened its first two retail stores in China. The UPS Express stores are located in Shanghai at the stock exchange and convention center.
UPS has 4,131 UPS Stores in the United States to offer retail packaging services. It also has international stores under the same name as well as a smaller number of Mail Boxes Etc. stores in the United States and around the world that have not converted to the UPS Store brand since it acquired Mail Boxes Etc. in 2001. Many franchisees have opted not to switch names.
The Atlanta-based package delivery giant has been rapidly expanding its presence in China. In 2005 it no longer was required to operate with Chinese joint venture partners and took over delivery operations under the UPS name. It also has expanded the number of cargo flights under new authority from the U.S. and Chinese governments.
To date most efforts have been aimed at providing package and logistics services for the manufacturing sector. The new stores are an attempt to offer convenient service to the financial and services industries.
