FDA PROPOSES RECORD-KEEPING RULES TO TRACE TRANSPORTED FOOD IMPORTS

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has proposed record-keeping rules for domestic companies involved in the transport of imported foods.

The agency said this ruling is needed to “properly address credible threats of serious adverse health consequences or death to humans and animals,” and to comply with the 2002 Public Health Security and Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Act.

The proposed rules address the FDA’s requirements to create and maintain records to trace the transportation of all food.

The agency will take comments from the industry about the proposed rulemaking through June 9. For a full overview of the proposed FDA rules, access online: http://a257.g.akamaitech.net/7/257/2422/14mar20010800/edocket.access.gpo.gov/2003/03-11460.htm.
