POSTAL SERVICE LEADS U.S. AIR MARKET

   The U.S. Postal Service carried the largest share, 45 percent, of U.S.
domestic air cargo shipments in 1998, according to a study by The
Colography Group, an Atlanta-based consulting company.
   The USPS moved 1.3 billion air shipments. Federal Express was the second
largest carrier with 718.4 million shipments and a 25.6 percent market share. United
Parcel Service was third with a 15.6 percent share, and Airborne had an 11.3 percent
share.
   Total U.S. domestic air shipments increased 7.6 percent over 1997, The
Colography Group said. Domestic air revenue of $31 billion was 7.2 percent higher, and
tonnage grew 7.3 percent year-over-year to 19.9 billion pounds.
