FMC to re-examine Pacific carrier bias case
The U.S. Federal Maritime Commission will reconsider, during a closed-door meeting scheduled for May 28, the issue of alleged discriminatory practices of transpacific carriers against intermediaries in last year’s shipping season.
In early May, the FMC accepted a fact-finding report of commissioner Joseph E. Brennan on practices of Transpacific Stabilization Agreement ocean carriers covering the 2002-2003 service contract season.
Until now, the agency has not disclosed the conclusions of the report, but it has directed its staff to prepare recommendations for further actions to pursue the issues raised by the investigation.
