RAILROADS SUPPORT BUSH DECISION ON EMISSIONS

The American Association of American Railroads supports a decision by President Bush not to impose mandatory carbon dioxide emission reductions at power plants.

“The nation’s freight railroads — which transport more than two-thirds of the coal used to generate more than half of America’s electricity — support the President’s call for a balanced energy policy, including investment in clean coal technology,” said AAR president Eward R. Hamberger.

“This balanced approach protects our environment, consumers and an economy that depends on the affordable electricity which coal provides,” he said.
