Port Everglades container volume up 20%

Port Everglades container volume up 20%

Containerized cargo throughput at the South Florida port of Port Everglades increased 20 percent in July to 239,721 TEUs.

Port Everglades trade development director Carlos Buqueras attributed the increase to the start up of two new Far East direct services, a new service to the West Coast of South America, a new Caribbean loop and increased volumes from several established carriers.

The port on Oct. will hear proposals from six companies to operate a new 36-acre marine terminal at the port's Southport Cargo Container complex.
