CMA CGM SERVICE LINKS PORT EVERGLADES, CARIBBEAN
French container line CMA CGM will start a weekly service between Port Everglades and six Caribbean ports.
The 'CMA CGM St. Lucia' will arrive at South Stevedoring's terminal in Port Everglades July 18. The service will call St. Maarten, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Barbados, Trinidad and Jamaica.
The new service will mean a 'significant' increase in cargo through the common-user terminal at Port Everglades, said Stephen Harrington, president of South Stevedoring.
It is the third new or expanded service announcement at the terminal in the past two months. Evergreen marine Corp. said late last month it agreed to double its weekly sailings between Port Everglades and Port-au-Prince, Haiti. In early May, the Independent Carriers Alliance, a consortium of five cargo-shipping lines, agreed to move services to South Stevedoring's terminal. The consortium, which comprises Montemar Maritima S.A., Hanjin Shipping, Zim Israel Navigation Co., Senator Lines and CMA CGM, operates vessels weekly between South Florida and ports on the eastern coast of South America.
