JAPAN AIRLINES TO SET UP INDEPENDENT CARGO UNIT

Japan Airlines, the world’s seventh-largest international air freight
carrier, has announced it will set up an independent operating unit to
manage its cargo operations in April.
JAL also will set up individual operating units to run passenger sales
and engineering and maintenance operations, and a separate subsidiary to oversee
international and domestic travel sales and marketing. The airline hopes to cut costs by
30 percent.
JAL said the in-house cargo company will buy warehouse space from its parent
company to enhance profitability.
