Longview digs into scrap metal exports

The Washington state port helped load scrap metal into a ship for export on behalf of PNW Metal Recycling.

The Port of Longview’s second Liebherr mobile harbor crane this week helped in the loading of scrap metal into a ship for export, the first time in the Washington state port’s history.
PNW Metal Recycling is exporting scrap to overseas steel markets. One of the port’s two heavy-lift Liebherr cranes was outfitted with a specially fabricated pan to load the scrap metal from a containment area on the berth into a vessel, the port authority said.
“We’re pleased to add this cargo to our portfolio and look forward to using the crane for additional bulks in the future,” said Laurie Nelson-Cooley, the port’s business development manager, in a statement.
PNW Metal Recycling chose Longview for its industrial land availability.
