Horizon Offshore cites barge fire in Atlantic

Horizon Offshore Inc., a Houston-based provider of marine construction services for the offshore oil and gas industry, said a fire broke out on the barge “LB Gulf Horizon” while it was being towed in the Atlantic Ocean about 400 miles east of the coast of Georgia.

“The fire continues to burn, so we cannot yet make a damage assessment,” Horizon Offshore said in a statement.

All personnel on the barge were safely evacuated to the tug towing the barge, which was unaffected by the fire.

“The barge was en route to Israel to perform a job for the Israel Electric Corp. Ltd. Anticipating that the ‘Gulf Horizon’ will not be able to perform the job, Horizon is considering moving the work to other assets within its fleet,” Horizon Offshore said.
