BELGIUM SHELVES NIGHT FLIGHT BAN
The Belgian government has shelved a plan to ban night flights at Brussels
International Airport, home to express carrier DHL International.
DHL said the proposal made by the Belgian transport minister to stop all
flights between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. by 2003 threatened some 6,000 direct and indirect jobs.
DHL would have considered moving its European hub operation if the ban was enacted.
The Belgian government said it would set up a working group to find an
acceptable solution to satisfy environmental groups, businesses and the airport’s
surrounding communities.
