CONTAINERSHIP AGENCY FOUNDER, ROLF HARTMANN, DIES
Rolf D. Hartmann, the former chairman and founder of Containership Agency, Inc., has died.
Originally from Bremen, Germany, Hartmann descends from a long line of family shipowners and operators, and founded Containership Agency in 1971, when he became its president and chief executive officer.
Containership Agency, Inc., the predecessor of Mediterranean Shipping
Co. (USA) Inc., acted as agent in the U.S. for many shipping lines, including Bottachi Line of Argentina, Empremar of Chile, Atlantica, Neptune Orient Lines, Italian Line, Blue Star Line and Mediterranean Shipping Co.
During his long tenure as CEO of the agency company, Hartmann was instrumental in hiring most of the senior executives and employees still working at Mediterranean Shipping Co. (USA) today.
