FMC TO REVISIT CHINA TRADE BARRIER CASE

FMC TO REVISIT CHINA TRADE BARRIER CASE

U.S. Federal Maritime Commission staff will brief FMC commissioners on Dec. 6    with updated information regarding developments in the agency’s long-standing probe into alleged discriminatory practices in the U.S./China trade.

The FMC has said that China has imposed trade practices which are barriers to U.S.-flag and other non-Chinese-flag carriers attempting to operate in the trade.

Such measures include restrictions on vessel calls at Chinese ports, restrictions on ocean carrier’s inland operations, and barring non-Chinese carriers from establishing branch offices in China’s interior.

The briefing will take place in closed session at the FMC’s headquarters in Washington, D.C.
