INCREASED PILOTAGE RATES FOR GREAT LAKES
The U.S. Coast Guard has proposed to increase pilotage rates for cargo vessels transiting the Great Lakes.
“We propose to change the pilotage rates for the shipping season of 2003 on the Great Lakes, both to generate sufficient funds for allowable expenses and to ensure that the pilots receive target compensation,” the agency said.
By law, the Coast Guard must review the Great Lakes pilotage rates annually.

The Coast Guard will also hold a public meeting about the proposed rate increases at its office in Cleveland on Jan. 31.
