U.S. top trade negotiator may head to State Department
Top U.S. trade negotiator Robert Zoellick may join the State Department management team of Condoleezza Rice, recently given the nod by the Bush administration to serve as the country’s next Secretary of State.
According to a news report in today’s Washington Post, Zoellick would serve as a deputy to Rice. Zoellick worked with Rice at the State Department during the first Bush administration in the early 1990s. He served as undersecretary for economic affairs and as counselor for then-Secretary of State James A. Baker III.
During the past week, Zoellick has also been mentioned as a possible candidate for president at either Fannie Mae or the World Bank.
