UPS NAMES NEW EXECUTIVES

United Parcel Service Inc. has promoted two insiders to take over key management positions left open by retiring executives.

Thomas H. Weidemeyer, president of UPS Airlines, was appointed chief operating officer, effective Jan. 1. Weidemeyer, a 28-year veteran of UPS, will replace Charles L. Schaffer. Schaffer retires as COO at UPS after spending 30 years with the company. He started as a part-time package sorter in Chicago.

   D. Scott Davis, vice president of finance, was named chief financial officer to replace Robert J. Clanin, who also will retire Jan. 1. Davis joined UPS in 1986, after the company acquired Oregon-based aviation technology company II Morrow, where he was CFO. II Morrow is now UPS Aviation Technologies.

Clanin, the outgoing CFO, joined UPS in 1971 as a part-time accounting clerk in Chicago.
