BOND CONDITIONS REGARDING OTHER U.S. AGENCIES WITHDRAWN

U.S. Customs, now part of the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection, has withdrawn a proposal to amend its regulations regarding the import bond condition requiring the principal to provide other government agencies any document or evidence required in connection with the import/entry process.

The agency proposed the amendment on August 6, 1999.

“The impetus for the proposal was that another agency asked Customs whether the customs bond could be used to provide a consequence for the failure to provide a specific document to that agency when that agency required the document upon the importation of certain articles,” Customs said.

Customs received six public comments “strongly opposed” to the proposed rule.
