MTMC TO IMPLEMENT NEW FINANCIAL SOFTWARE
The U.S. Military Traffic Management Command will implement new financial management software by June 2002.
The software was developed by Oracle Federal Financials of Redwood, Calif. The implementation will be assisted by KPMG Consulting in McLean, Va.
“We’re going to go from a 1970s’ semi-automated tool, with military-unique process, to a commercial, off-the-shelf, software package,” said Steve Jebo, project manager at MTMC.
For three decades, MTMC has used a series of automated files to generate financial management reports and create accounting entries.
“This system has not been able to meet Department of Defense-imposed accounting standards of recent years,” Jebo said. “In recent years, the Pentagon has faced increasing public and Congressional scrutiny of its financial controls and fiscal record keeping.”
MTMC’s U.S. Navy partner, the Military Sealift Command, at the Navy Yard in Washington implemented a similar system in July 2000.
