SAVI PARTNERS WITH UNCTAD
Savi Technologies, a provider of real-time collaborative logistics software, and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) said Monday it has formed a global partnership to create an infrastructure for logistics management in developing nations.
Initially, Savi and UNCTAD will concentrate on Africa, building sustainable data networks allowing shippers and freight forwarders to track containers via the Internet.
UNCTAD began implementing its Advance Cargo Information System in 1988. Savi's software will augment the system, which is now operational in 20 African and Asian countries.
“The idea is to help provide an economic stimulus to parts of the world that don’t have the resources or capital to sustain growth and development with the latest technology,” said Coll M. Hunter, an UNCTAD adviser.
Savi Technology, a privately held company, is based in Sunnyvale, Calif.
