CBP expands FAST locations
Truck drivers who are pre-certified for security purposes will soon have more border crossings available to them for expedited clearance into the United States.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection last week said it is expanding the number of ports of entry that accept drivers who participate in the Free and Secure Trade, or FAST, program.
Drivers who pass criminal history background checks, carry a special identification and work for shippers that participate in the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism are eligible for quick processing at checkpoints.
CBP will begin to implement FAST on Aug. 31 at the following ports on the border with Canada:
* Massena and Ogdensburg, N.Y.
* Oroville, Wash.
* Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.
On the southern border, the following locations will be FAST enabled:
* Douglas and San Luis, Ariz.
* Del Rio, Eagle Pass and Rio Grande, Texas.
* St. Theresa, N.M.
* Tecate, Calif.
FAST currently operates at 18 locations on the northern and southern borders.
