CKYHS ALLIANCE COMPLETES MAJOR EAST/WEST NETWORK REVAMP

CKYHS ALLIANCE COMPLETES MAJOR EAST/WEST NETWORK REVAMP

The global alliance of COSCO, “K” Line, Yangming Marine Transport, Hanjin Shipping and Senator Lines has finalized plans to revamp many of their joint container services in the Asia/U.S. East Coast, Asia/U.S. West Coast, transatlantic and Asia/Europe trades.

In terms of capacity, the two main effects of the revamp is the ending of one Asia/U.S. West Coast loop, as the slack season nears, and the addition of an Asia/U.S. East Coast all-water service.

From early January, the weekly North America/Asia/Europe “PDN” pendulum service will end. In the Asia/U.S. East Coast market, a new “AWE 3” service is being started, while the “AWE 1” and “AWE 2” loops will take the place of the former “AWE” and “AUE” services, respectively.

The discontinued transpacific PDN service called at Seattle, Vancouver, and ports of Malaysia, China, Taiwan and South Korea, according to the global liner shipping database ComPairData.

The new “AWE 3” service will employ nine ships of about 3,600 TEUs and call at Yantian, Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, Busan, Savannah, New York, Wilmington, Savannah, Kaohsiung, Hong Kong and Yantian.

The “AWE 1” service will use eight ships averaging 4,266 TEUs and call at Shanghai, Yantian, Hong Kong, Busan, New York, Norfolk, Savannah, Tokyo, Busan, Shanghai, Yantian and Hong Kong.

The “AWE 2” service will utilize eight ships averaging 3,825 TEUs, calling Qingdao, Yantian, Hong Kong, Charleston, Norfolk, New York, Boston, Qingdao, Yantian and Hong Kong.

In the transatlantic trade, the “TAS 1” service will replace the U.S./north Europe leg of the defunct “AUM” service. Also, the U.S./Mediterranean “AMS” service has been renamed “TAS 3” without making any changes to the rotation. The revised “TAS 1” service uses four ships of around 4,000 TEUs and calls at Antwerp, Bremerhaven, Felixstowe, Rotterdam, Le Havre, New York, Norfolk, Charleston, New York, Antwerp, Bremerhaven, Felixstowe, Rotterdam and Le Havre.

In the Asia/Europe trade, a new weekly service is commencing, taking the space of the former “PDN” service. All five carriers of the CKYHS alliance will have space on the new NEX service, which will employ eight ships averaging 5,459-TEU capacity transferred from the U.S./Asia/Europe “PDS” service. At the same time the “PDS” will phase in ships from the former “PDN” service.

The NEX service will have a rotation of Hamburg, Rotterdam, Felixstowe, Le Havre, Colombo, Port Kelang, Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Xiamen, Chiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Hamburg.

From January, Senator Lines — a former full member of the CKYHS alliance — will no longer provide services in the transpacific and transatlantic trades, but it will participate in the alliance’s Asia/Europe services.
