FEC Railway helps retailers replenish store shelves

The railroad is adding Sunday service to Central Florida, so truckers can get goods to stores at the start of the week.

The Florida East Coast Railway will now deliver intermodal loads to Central Florida seven days a week to meet retailers’ needs, the company said Thursday.
The privately-held railroad is adding Sunday service from Jacksonville to Fort Pierce beginning June 6. Shipments that arrive at the FECR rail facility in Jacksonville before 10 a.m. on Saturdays will be available in Fort Pierce at 11 a.m. on Sundays.
The extra day of service will allow retail customers to begin replenishment at store locations prior to Monday. The decision was influenced by feedback from retailers seeking to do replenishment at the start of the week and from motor carriers, which face pressure to meet appointment times.
“We are pleased to offer more options for customers to reach destinations in Central Florida,” Will Costantini, FECR vice president and chief transportation officer, said in a statement. “FECR recognizes the time sensitivity of many of our shipments, and we are committed to providing the reliability, flexibility and connectivity that companies need to manage their supply chains.”
