NYK SETS UP EUROPEAN LOGISTICS ARM

The Japanese shipping and logistics group Nippon Yusen Kaisha has set up NYK Logistics (Europe) Ltd., a new affiliate based in London.

NYK Logistics (Europe)’s main purpose is “to establish a single window point of contact for supplying total integrated logistics services including ocean transport, warehousing and distribution, by making good use of IT,” the Japanese group said.

The launch of NYK Logistics (Europe) follows the establishment in early 2002 of NYK Logistics (Americas) Inc.

NYK Logistics (Europe) Ltd. has a capital of '500,000 (about $800,000) and 11 staff members. S. Murakami will be managing director of the company, which is based at the regional office of NYK Line (Europe) Ltd. M. Sato, chairman of NYK Line (Europe), will also chair NYK Logistics (Europe). J. R. Davidson has been appointed a director of the logistics affiliate.

“This move brings NYK Line closer to the establishment of NYK Logistics offices in Asia, Japan and China and the gradual incorporation of all group companies under the NYK Logistics & Megacarrier ‘double wing’ logo,” a spokesman for NYK said.
