Anglo-Eastern official calls on India to improve seafarer market share
At a conference on marine training and manning, Capt. Pradeep Chawla, director of quality assurance and training for Anglo-Eastern Group, described what is needed for India to improve its global market share of seafarers, which is running at 8 percent of the world's supply.
Chawla called on the Indian maritime officials to:
* Accept responsibility for being a facilitator of Indian seafarers.
* Become more active in international forums and conference.
* Ensure stricter control of examinations and standards of training facilities.
* Keep control of the seafarer industry to one department with one voice.
* Improve seafarer management and safety skills.
Chawla made the presentation at the 2nd Annual Lloyd's Manning & Training Conference, held in Mumbai Tuesday and today.
