Bentley name added to Port of Baltimore
Maryland Gov. Robert Ehrlich renamed the public marine terminals at the Port of Baltimore to honor former Rep. Helen Delich Bentley for her many years of service to the state’s maritime industry.
According to the June 2 Baltimore Sun, Ehrlich said signs reflecting the new logo — “The Helen Delich Bentley – Port of Baltimore” — will be erected at the port before the end of the year.
Bentley started her career as a journalist with The Sun in 1945, where she covered the port. She got her first taste of Washington politics in 1969 when she was appointed chairman of the Federal Maritime Commission. She went on to serve in the House of Representatives from 1985 to 1995. Today, she consults for the Port of Baltimore, the newspaper noted.
